New Year’s Resolution – Increase your Auto Insurance Coverage

On Behalf of | Dec 18, 2015 | Firm News |

This is the time of year when we make (and try to keep) New Year’s Resolutions.   For 2016, I have one very important suggestion – review your automobile insurance coverages to make sure you are adequately covered.   Many people think they are “fully covered” if the collision damage for their car is up to date.   Collision coverage is the least important of the coverages contained in your auto insurance policy.   The three most critical coverages are liability, uninsured motorist and medical payments.   Liability and underinsured motorist limits should be at LEAST $250,000 per person, $500,000 per accident.   Higher if possible.   Liability coverage is relatively inexpensive, and it protects you and your family in the event of an accident with serious injuries.  Medical Payment coverage provides automatic no-fault type coverage for medical bills to anyone in your vehicle if injured in an accident.   Those limits should be a minimum of $5,000, and if possible, $10,000.00.    It would be worth increasing the deductible for collision and comprehensive, and using those savings to protect yourself and your family in the event of serious injury.   If you would like to discuss this further, just give us a call and I’d be happy to speak to you further.    Have a great holiday season from all of us at the Law Offices of Peter E. Hutchins, PLLC.
